Biography

Soprano Suvi Väyrynen has quickly emerged as one of Finland's most exciting young singers. She is
the winner of the 2016 Lappeenranta singing competition Female Grand Prize and has gained
recognition through various other national and international singing competitions. She has delighted
critics with her vocal courage and bright personality as well as entertained audiences with her
uncompromising attention to detail in contemporary music. As a concert singer she has sung with various Finnish orchestras such as Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Sinfonia Lahti and Finnish Baroque Orchestra. Her latest roles include Mozart's The Queen of the Night (Estonian National Opera 22/23, Tampere Opera 2022), Woglinde/Waldvogel (Wagner 21/22, Eurajoki Bel Canto), Adina (Donizetti /Joensuu Opera 2021) and Frasquita (Tampere Opera 2020).

Ms. Väyrynen made her operatic debut in 2015 singing the role of Anna in Tampere Opera's production of Verdi's Nabucco. Later on, also in Tampere Opera, she has performed the roles of Curra in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino in 2016, Onni in the world premiering opera My Brother’s Keeper by Olli Kortekangas in 2018 and Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème in 2019. She made her debut at the Finnish National Opera in 2016 in the role of Adele in Johann Strauss' operetta, Die Fledermaus. On this prestigious stage  she has also performed the role of Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte in 2018 and in 2019 she was part of the singing soloist ensemble in CircOpera.

In the summer 2018 Ms. Väyrynen made her debut in Savonlinna Opera Festival in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades singing the roles of Masha and Chloe. As a recording artist she has had the pleasure to record Requiem by Kostiainen, and Requiem by Kokkonen, released in 2017.


Ms. Väyrynen studied at Tampere University of Applied Sciences under the tutelage of Satu Sippola,
graduating with honours as a Music Pedagogue in 2013. She then began her Masters studies in
Vienna at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien with Uta Schwabe as her
voice teacher and graduated with distinction in 2020. There, she also studied Lied with Birgid Steinberger and Carolyn Hague.

Are you interested in understanding your vocal instrument better and improving your singing abilities? It can be very liberating to express yourself through your voice, and I strive to help my students discover the possibilities of their voices! With a focus on individual solutions, I provide my students with the attention and guidance they need to reach their full potential.

In my teaching approach, I incorporate insights from my professional experience as an opera singer and soloist, my background in theater and choir, as well as extensive studies in music education and vocal science. Particularly through my studies in vocal science (speech techniques and voice science), I gained insights into the physiology, anatomy, and acoustics of the voice, which I integrate into my lessons.

Whether you want to refine your vocal technique, prepare for a performance or audition, or simply nurture your passion for singing, I am here to support you in achieving your goals.

 

While I am based in Vienna, Austria, I provide both in-person and online lessons, catering to students worldwide.
